Becoming A Better First Date

In this age of sexual freedom it is not all that uncommon for the first date to lead to sex. That puts added pressure on you and your date. Both men and women, understandably, can have anxiety due to worries about how they perform or how their bodies look “all natural”. There seems to be one thing neither party ever considers when on a first date and that is leaving sex out of the first date equation. Even if by some chance that idea does cross your or their mind, acting upon it or even bringing it up would not only be presumptuous but awkward no matter how subtle one tries to be. I believe many people, men and women alike, would probably appreciate one night out with someone they could be romantically interested in without having all the extra baggage.

Becoming a good first date means learning to read the subtle clues that are being sent your way. The problem with this is many times men either misread or completely fail to see the clues being sent. Often flirtation is taken to mean that the woman is really trying to go there. And on the other hand, culture has taken a turn and no longer encourages women to use the art of how to be coquettish without seeming promiscuous. How many times have you had a night with a total dud but still somehow ended up in bed and woke up wondering why?

One thing that can seriously make you a hit on a first date is to go somewhere apart from your both of your normal haunts. This is to avoid running into anyone from either of your regular social groups. There is enough pressure placed on a date for either party to try and impress. Meeting friends could lead to some very uncomfortable feelings and inevitably your friends will make the entire night a joke. Not to mention you probably want to avoid the embarrassing stories that will ensue; when with friends you no longer have control of how your story is told.

Don’t make a big thing of it but decide early on how things will be paid for. Traditionally the man has always picked up the tab but in today’s society it is perfectly acceptable to split the bill, especially on firsties. Of course fellas, in many cases the best way to make the greatest first impression is to try and pick up the whole tab; the chivalry will be remembered.

Even if your first impression of your date isn’t so hot, avoid talking down to them or coming across the least bit deriding. Give them a chance because you never know and doing so will certainly make sure there is not a second date. One other thing to consider is that you probably travel in similar circles and you never know who they may share their experience with. This may seem obvious but making lascivious comments about the opposite sex or those around you will also make a bad impression on any date, first or otherwise. At the other end of the spectrum, if you are head over heels don’t let it show. For some this might be an “easier said than done” situation but remember being needy and controlling is a red flag on a first date.

Finally, being a good listener and conversationalist is very important. What’s that saying… practice makes prefect or something…all kidding aside, you can prepare for the date by rehearsing a few non-invasive open ended questions. Open ended questions are great because they, by design, get the other person to not only open up but to also feel special and at ease. Make the first date one of fun and levity. Going on a date that involves the two of you in action like mini-golfing or bowling is a good way to begin. It gives you ways to interact and fill silent moments but still allows for those “getting to know you” conversations.

5 Vanity License Plates that Won’t Get You a Date

You’ve seen them on different websites, while driving down the road, or in pictures that friends and family have sent you. They’re vanity license plates—some of which can be really cute, and others that make you wonder about the person driving the car (and not in a good way). When driving by a cutie in a car, you don’t want them to second guess talking to you because of the message your vanity plate is sending.

While vanity plates can be fun to spot and try to figure out, they can actually scare potential dates away and attract cops. Especially if the officer reading them misinterprets the message and, you may not be aware of this, but each time you are stopped, a record is kept—even if you are not issued a citation.

Frequent stops by the police may have a negative effect on your car insurance once your insurance company finds out about it (and chances are, they will). The more you pay for auto insurance quote and tickets, the less money you have to spend on dates, it all comes full circle. So, this means you probably don’t want to have a vanity plate that says:

JAILBRD (jailbird). Somebody really had this one on their license and who wants to date someone who is proud of going to jail?

LV2SPD, ND4SPD (love to speed, need for speed). If nothing else, the cops will keep radar trained on your car while alerting other officers up the road that you’re coming. In this instance, even driving a couple of miles over the speed limit could get you pulled over and a citation issued. Some women may like this, but I prefer to live while riding passenger on dates.

DYNGR. According to a news story published on December 9, 2009 in the Muskegon Chronicle, this license plate has been misinterpreted as a racial slur (Die n-word). The owner says it’s an abbreviation that blends his two favorite Harleys: The Dyna Wide Glide and the Soft Tail Springer into one word. Red Flag for me, you would not get another date after seeing this one.

Anything that expresses one’s dislike, animosity, or other negative feelings toward law enforcement (even if it’s not supposed to mean that: see #3.) This can be anything from IH8Cops (again, not a real one) to FDPOPO (“f*** the” and “popo” is slang in some areas for police).

Anything that might can be interpreted as support for drug use (CRAKDUP, or XTASY, for example). This might get you pulled over and you and your car searched for probable cause. I don’t know about you, but dating a drug addict is not on my dating bucket list.

If you must have vanity plates, choose the wording carefully. Even then, ask the DMV to let you see their list of banned or prohibited vanity plates to make sure yours doesn’t even come close. This will prevent your license plate from affecting your insurance premium and more importantly your dating life.

12 Topics to avoid on a first date

We all make mistakes. But some dating mistakes can cost you a prospective relationship. Many guys and girls have no idea what topics they should avoid on a first date and end up making mistakes thereby spoiling a potential relationship. There are several sensitive topics which is best to avoid on a first date or too soon. If you are wondering how to chase a Guy or Girl away from you feel free to indulge in the dating mistakes. If not, given below are 12 topics I feel one should avoid while conversing with a potential mate if you want to make a good first impression.

Past Relationships: Do you brag about your ex or talk how good or how bad they were. Past is past and should be buried and no man or woman would want to hear you continuously talking about your ex. Having too much relationship baggage is an extreme turnoff to majority of guys and girls.

Sex and Feelings: Talking about sex and feelings on a first date or too early can chase a prospective partner away from you. For most it is an embarrassing topic of discussion and talking about such things can make the other person feel that you have a one track mind and sex is the only thing you are looking for from that person.

Talking about you: Those who boast about themselves are normally those who are egoistic, self centered and insecure which are considered negative traits when looking for a relationship. Try getting to know the other person instead of talking too much about you by asking intriguing questions. But make sure to keep your questions not too personal or offensive.

Work: You may be proud of your job and your boss and colleagues may be full of admiration for you but it is not something which your date may want to hear.

Religion: Most youngster find religion as an uncomfortable topic of discussion.  If religion is an important factor for you to see someone gather that information before hand. Moreover, you can understand which religion a person may belong to based on name, way of dressing, conversation, way of behavior etc. In this day and age does religion matter much for a good relationship?

Politics: Politics is not a favorite topic of conversation for most people and it would be better not to take the risk and just leave it out of conversation. With so much of corruption and mismanagement coming to light you are taking a risk of disagreement or conflict with your date on the topic.

Marriage: Talks of marriage on a first date or too early in a relationship can spoil a relationship.

Children: The first date is too soon to discuss about when or how many children you want to have. If you say you love children and want some fast you may give an indication that you may want a commitment fast which may scare off most guys. If you say that you do not like children then you may be giving the signal that you are not in for a serious relationship. If you already have children and can’t stop talking about them then you would be indication that your children come first in your life and can be damaging for a relationship.

Unpleasant Topics or People: It is a bad idea to talk or complain about people whom you do not like or unpleasant topics like terrorist attack, war, rape etc which carries a lot of negativity. Instead talk of positive topics or people.

Money: Do not talk about how much money you have or don’t have. You can discuss your financial situation later. You may have money, but do not flaunt it. It may make you look like a show off or attract wrong persons to you. On the other hand being stingy with money can brand you as a miser.

Technical Topics: These are not good topics of conversation as far as girls are concerned as they are not much into technical stuff. So it topic may be a boring one for them.

Bad Habits: Talking about your bad habits can often repel a potential partner. So do not talk about them unless asked and let them discover it over time.

Finally, there is nothing worse than having nothing to talk about on a first date. Too much silence is almost as awkward as bad conversation. So make sure that you make an interesting conversation with your date if you wish to make a serious relationship.
