TV Channels making a mockery of the sacred institution of Marriage

There was a report on Rahul Mahajans marriage and poll on Mumbai Mirror (Do you think Rahul Mahajans marriage to Dimpy Ganguly would last?) where majority voted no.  I don’t think the media should publish such negativity polls. Someone’s marriage would be successful or not depends on the couples involved in it. Spreading such negativity can have a negative impact on the couple’s life and also make those who know them or see them look at them in a negative manner too. If their marriage would fail or not let the time decide. Who are we to make such judgments on such things?

Majority of the Reality Shows are just stepping stones for guys and girls who want to make a career in modelling or acting. Most of these shows have nothing to do with reality and looks fake and scripted. Reputed TV Channels like NDTV Imagine and Star Plus have made a mockery of Indian culture and our institution of marriage. The programs like Rakhi ka Swayambar, Perfect Bride and Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jayenge also damages the reputation of channels in their chase to improve TRP. The show Rakhi ka Swayambar had Rakhi Sawant looking for her perfect groom to wed but ended up by just getting engaged to Elesh Parujanwala. The engagement was broken within months which makes an average viewer think that it was all pre set. Even majority of contestants were wannabe models and actors who participated in the show to improve their chances to get into the limelight and some even succeeded in doing so. The show Perfect Bride also had several such men and women looking for their perfect partner and it ended with 2 contestants getting married after several trials and errors. This show even had Boss Moms interfering with contestants and even heart breaks. The NDTV shows also make a mockery of the barat, haldi and sangeet ceremonies apart from playing with the emotions of the contestants.

But the most ridiculous show was ‘Rahul Dulhaniya Le jayenge' where a divorcee with a background of drug abuse, wife beating and immoral behavior in public being projected as an eligible bachelor. However, NDTV imagine kept his so called friends Payal Rohatgi and Monica Bedi away from the show. His ex wife Sweta Singh though also refused to participate in the show.  Here too majority of the participants of the show were those looking for name, fame and money as expected. The show ended with Rahul marrying his booze buddy Dimpy Ganguly who herself is a small scale actress and model  who had signed a 2 year contract with Gladrags and was not supposed to taking part in any TV show or work during the contract period. The absence of Rahul’s sister Poonam Mahajan and Rahul getting married within 12 days after the death of his uncle which is considered inauspicious for marriage created controversy. It also makes one to arrive at a conclusion that it is a contract marriage. Even if one may agree that forgiving the killer of his father and still considering him a family member is difficult but what can be more important to a sister than her brother’s marriage that she never appeared in the show even once?
